Ramadhaan is a time of deep spiritual connection, but for women on their period, the inability to fast or pray can sometimes feel disheartening. However, there are still many ways to stay connected to Allah and make the most of this blessed month. Here are seven meaningful acts of worship and spirituality you can engage in while on your period.

1. Engage in Dhikr (Remembrance of Allah)
Even if you are unable to pray, you can still keep your tongue and heart engaged in the remembrance of Allah. Recite:
- Subhanallah (Glory be to Allah) x 100 times
- Alhamdulillah (All praise is due to Allah)
- Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest)
- La ilaha illallah (There is no god but Allah)
- La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharikalahu lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu, yukyi wa yumeetu biyadil khair, wahuwa ala kulli shay in qadeer. (There is no God but Allah the One,,He has no partners, Sovereignity belongs to Him and all Praise is due to Him, in His hands is all good, and He has Power over everything)
- Subhanallahi wa bihamdihi. Subhannallahil adheem
- Additionally, increase your Salawat (blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ) and Istighfar (seeking forgiveness). These small yet powerful words bring immense rewards.
2. Make Du’a (Supplication)
Ramadhaan is a time when du’as are especially accepted, particularly at iftar. Use this opportunity to have heartfelt conversations with Allah. Keep a du’a journal where you write down personal supplications and prayers for your loved ones, the Ummah, and the entire world.
3. Read and Reflect on the Tafsir of the Qur’an
While direct recitation of the Qur’an may not be allowed (according to many scholars), you can still engage with its meanings by reading the translation and tafsir. Use this time to deeply reflect on the verses and understand their relevance in your life.
4. Listen to Islamic Lectures and Podcasts
Enrich your knowledge of Islam by listening to beneficial lectures and podcasts. Many scholars and teachers share inspiring Ramadhaan talks on spirituality, personal development, and Islamic history. This is a great way to stay connected to faith while engaging in other activities.

5. Give Charity and Help Those in Need
The rewards of charity are multiplied in Ramadhaan. Even if you are not fasting, you can still give sadaqah (charity), sponsor an iftar meal, or help someone in need. Acts of kindness, no matter how small, hold great value in the eyes of Allah.
6. Strengthen Family Bonds and Serve Others
Use this time to build stronger relationships with family and friends. Prepare iftar for your loved ones, check in on those who may be struggling, or simply offer words of encouragement. Serving others is a beautiful form of worship.
7. Plan for the Rest of Ramadhaan
Take this time to set goals for the remainder of Ramadhaan. Plan your ibadah (worship), prepare a Qur’an reading schedule, and set intentions for Laylatul Qadr. Having a structured plan can help you make the most of the days ahead.
Your period does not mean you are disconnected from Ramadhaan. In fact, it is an opportunity to engage in worship in different ways. By keeping your heart connected to Allah through dhikr, du’a, charity, and knowledge-seeking, you can still earn immense rewards and spiritual growth.
May Allah bless us all with a productive and fulfilling Ramadhaan!
