Blog Update

السلام عليكم و رحمةالله و بركاته

Hi everyone, how are you all doing?

This post is an update on the blog and the reason for it is because I have pretty much lost a few years worth of work due to my previous web hosting company.

It really broke my heart to realize that so many beautiful posts that I worked really hard on were lost because they were beyond negligent and insisted on deleting databases etc from my blog.

Taken from the Internet

However, I managed to recover the first few years of my work and I plan on starting over again. The current posts shall be archived and some new and interesting things will be coming your way soon.

During the pandemic and more so in the last few weeks especially, I managed to somewhat restore my site, however it’s still not perfect or where I would like it to be.

In the mean time, I’d like to express my heartfelt thanks to all of my subscribers and I will continue to bring you interesting posts from food to Islamic lifestyle and travel.

Keep well & keep safe,

World Hijab Day, 1st February 2014

السلام عليكم و رحمت الله و بركاته

How many of you are wondering why there’s a special day for hijab, aka world ‘scarf’ day?
Well here’s a little background on the initiative begun by a Muslim sister, in America.

February 1st 2013 is known worldwide, as the 1st World Hijab Day.
Begun by Nazma Khan, a New York resident, who had grown up with being at the receiving end of discrimination all through her life, all because she wore the Hijab or scarf since the age of 11, as is done by many Muslim women around the world everyday.

World Hijab Day isn’t just about Muslim women. It’s about inviting women from all faiths, to don the Hijab and for one day to experience what a Muslim woman feels by wearing the Hijab.
I suppose in a way it’s a bit daring for anyone to just don the Hijab, in its proper manner, where ALL of the hair is covered.

Many women participated last year, even though the event was organized completely via social networks. Nazma’s aim is for 1 million women to take part this year, from all around the world.

I would personally like to invite all female subscribers to don the Hijab, in its proper manner, for a day, on February 1st 2014.

If you do participate, please take a photo of yourself in the Hijab (optional) and forward an email to me, relating your experience in wearing it for a day.
Look at how you are treated by friends, family, colleagues etc.
How do you personally feel having worn it for a day?
What were the highlights and lows of wearing it?
And finally, would you wear it again?

All emails to The Turquoise Scarf will be posted on the blog and the best post, as voted for by readers via the comments section, shall win something special.
I look forward to your entries, which have to be in by midnight on the 2nd of February 2014.
Winners shall be announced on the 5th of February 2014.

So ladies, who’s daring enough to take up this challenge?

If you would like to show your support for World Hijab Day, please post the following picture on your social network profiles for the day on 1st February 2014.

Baking, Cooking, Studying & Scheduling

Hi and salaam to all

Sjoe! I’ve just noticed how few and far between my posts have become.

Apologies for that.
The reason I’ve been rather delayed with posts is because I’ve been focused on achieving 2 particular goals of mine.

I want to be a professional baker as well as finishing my diploma in Event and Wedding Management.

I looooooooovee baking and cooking.
And for the past 10 months, I’ve been avidly attending classes by a particular person.

(Unfortunately I’ll no longer be attending any of her classes as she’s gone on to tell people that I’m apparently rich so she doesn’t know for what I’m baking nor do I need the money, oh and I’ll buy anything… Seriously, the nerve of some people! )

So anyway I’ve switched to another person who has incredible talent and isn’t so petty nor full of assumptions.

Since I’m based in Lenasia, which is south of Johannesburg, I’ve recently launched a blog site in which everyone can view the things I make 🙂

I’m quite rather proud of it, so I’d love for you to have a look and send in your comments and criticisms (be kind please).

The address is

If you’re on Twitter, feel free to follow @FairyDustDeligh

(Sounds weird, I know, but it wouldn’t accept the last 2 letters… Lol)

On the other side, I’ve been busy with assignments, and studies.

And I’ve been doing all of this on Saturday afternoons and Sundays as I work Monday to Friday, & Saturday until 12pm..
Talk about hectic! But I’m glad that I’m enjoying these challenges and though I try to still make time for all of my friends and retain some semblance of a social life , it seems I’ve begun using my calendar/day planner more than ever.
Big thanks to Blackberry for helping me manage everything!

So there you have it, no excuses, although I will begin to make every effort to put up many more posts in future.

Until next time, have a wonderful time in all you do.
