In light of this freezing weather we’re experiencing in South Africa, many people have begun to collect and distribute blankets and groceries.
I do believe many people are genuinely doing collections and distributions, however there are some unscrupulous people who collect and sell the stuff you donate so please be aware.
As most of you know, charity work is something I love doing. To be able to help someone in need, is an honour as they teach you how to share and truly appreciate what Allah (God) has bestowed upon you.
Religion and race doesn’t come into it, as many people, whether they are black, white, coloured, indian, Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Tamil, etc. need our help as one human being to another.
I simply urge those of us that are blessed and in a position to help the poor within your community. Whether it be with food, blankets, clothes, shoes, baby’s clothes, toiletries, domestic cleaning agents, literally anything you have, people will appreciate it.
We all know that things like a hot shower, hot food, hot drinks, and a warm bed are among the things we want on such blistering cold winter days and nights. For the poor, destitute and homeless, these things are truly a luxury.
Some good news is that Gift of the Givers is hosting 2000 people tonight at the Oriental Plaza to assist the homeless and destitute by feeding them and distributing necessities to the poor. Volunteers are needed, if you are available. Please join us.
What are you doing to help the poor this winter?
Post your comments and let’s make this winter a little warmer for all.
Please ‘Pay It Forward’ I think is the expression. If all of us did something of this sort, we could really help those in need.
It is Summer here in Southern California, USA. However, I still thought I would share what I do for the Homeless. I put Tote Bags of things together such as food, soap, toothbrush, etc.. and give it to a homeless person with a basket or someone in a local park. I say a prayer first and ask God to lead me to the person he chooses. I do not give them to the people holding the signs only because here a lot of them really do not want to “Work for food” as the signs state but only want a hand-out. I prefer to help the ones that are not begging but are trying to get by. I also add a card with the words, “God Loves You.” just as a reminder.
That’s really admirable. Its also an idea that I think many of us could implement. Thank you so much for sharing what you do and how you do it. God bless you for all you do.
