SA Fashion Week Edgars

A week ago I entered a competition on Edgars’ Facebook page, it was about winning tickets to the SA Fashion Week Launch at Edgars Melrose Arch…

Little did I know that I’d be surprised a few days later with a call saying I’ve won two VIP tickets to it.

So last night was the big night and there I was in a black dress (yes, a long one), along with my sister, make up artist and hairstylist, Nazeera.

The amazing street party outside the Edgars Melrose Arch store was club – like although there was liberal seating available, drinks were free (although we’re non alcoholic) and they had a section with tables decked with mini cakes, cookies in the shape of dresses and high heeled shoes, chocolate fountains with strawberries and marshmallows, and they even catered for halaal and kosher guests! ( That really impressed us!). What I loved was the Gourmet Marshmallow bar, I never knew marshmallows could come in so many flavours!

Not far from the tables, was Gareth Cliff, yes from the show Idols and Five FM, who was so kind to pose with my sister for a photograph. :-)
Randall was there too, taking photos with some of the people present.

The fashion showcased make up house Black Up, the perfumes by Narcisso Rodriguez and Ellie Saab, foot massages by Mangwanani Spa, and of course clothing by seven permanent designers, namely Black Coffee, Clive Rundle, Colleen Eitzen, Lunar and Two. There will be accessories and underwear by Robyn Lidsky and hats by Chanelle Vlok.

Three more designers will rotate on a monthly basis:
Hermanna Rush, Rubicon and Sies! Isabelle in September/October;
Ephymol, Naked Ape and Silver Spoon in October/November; and
Ephymol, Gert Johan Coetzee and Kottin & Twille in December/January.

This is the first time that fashion lovers will have access to local designers clothing which are more affordable and publicly available at Edgars stores.

The launch was a hit and definitely one of the highlights of the beginning to SA Fashion Week 2011.

It was an amazing show, thoroughly enjoyed it, and the gift bags were lovely too! ;-)

Review Of The Ask Nanima Home Industry Expo At The Botanical Gardens In Emmarentia

Salaam and hello to all

Today, Sunday 22nd May 2011, was the Ask Nanima Home Industry Expo, held at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens in Emmarentia.

The weather was great, sunny and warm, and spending a few hours at the Gardens itself was wonderful.

The stalls on the outside had some lovely things such as gorgeous Hijabs (scarves) in different colours which have roses on the one edge. It looks quite stunning once pinned up.
We (my sister and I) also came across a lady selling beautiful canvases on which you could paint anything you’d like and you could also ice a cupcake in your choice of design for only R10.00.

Next was a stall selling beautiful hijab pins, at which my sister and I had a rather tough time choosing pins to match our abayas that we plan on wearing to another upcoming Islamic event.

The food stalls were lovely, selling chicken biryani and the other one selling things like burgers, wors rolls, chicken wraps, steak wraps and much more.
The chicken biryani was divine btw ;-)

The stalls on the inside of the building were selling a variety of things from lovely sandals with crystals to Ask Nanima T-shirts, edible glitter for baking, organic facial beauty products, and so so much more!

There were a lot of people that attended the Expo, and the only down side was the lack of room to move about inside the building and it also got very hot.

But all in all, I think the Expo was a success for all those that hired stalls there, and for us as visitors, a big thank you to the stall owners for selling some amazing and beautiful things.

We’ll be looking forward to the next to Expo.

*Its been a while since I’ve been back at the Botanical Gardens, and after visiting the Expo, my sister and I took a walk down to a bench near the river. It reminded me of the peace and quiet I love about the place.
I’ll definitely be back there soon!

My next update will be up soon, be sure to check back for details.

XOXO
